Why You Should Avoid Energy Drinks and Diet SodaShare
You may have heard time and again that energy drinks and diet soda are bad for your health, but never really understood exactly why. They are both items that you see in every convenient store that you walk into, and how can you turn down a "Buy one, get one free" deal? However, there are actually several reasons for you to avoid energy drinks and diet sodas regardless of the great deals you see, and everything revolves around your body and how much it can handle before giving into the harmful side effects from ingredients they contain.
This particular beverage has become increasingly popular amongst younger adults over the past decade, and it just so happens that heart disease and diabetes have increased as well. First, energy drinks contain high amounts of caffeine and sometimes guarana, which is similar to caffeine. When you consume too much caffeine you become dependent upon this just like a person addicted to nicotine in cigarettes, and eventually you crave and need caffeine. Research has proven that you also become easily angered and moody due to caffeine side effects that lower serotonin levels, which are neurotransmitters that make you feel pleasant and happy.
Heart disease and diabetes are frequently linked to obesity, which can occur from consuming too much sugar on a daily basis. Energy drinks contain a ridiculously high amount of sugar that your body does not need. When you consume sugar, your pancreas goes to work in creating insulin to breakdown the sugar and use it for energy. However, after being over worked day after day, your pancreas can no longer create insulin to break down the sugar, thus leading to diabetes. Also, excess fat is gained since the sugar has nowhere else to go but to your fat cells.
Other possible side effects of energy drinks are:
- Heart Palpitations
- Organ Stress
- Lower Immune System
Diet soda is no better than regular soda despite popular belief. Artificial ingredients still fill up the ingredient label, but most people just do not have a clue what they do to the human body. Preservatives are very bad for your body and can be found in almost all processed foods. Sodium benzoate is one such preservative that has been linked to the formation of asthma. Phospheric acid is a chemical preservative that is found in large quantities within a diet cols, or just any soft drink in general. This acidifying agent has been known to cause osteoporosis, kidney stones, and tooth decay.
Other side effects of diet soda are:
- Reproductive Complications
- Preterm Labor
- Heart Disease
